I made a truly great blunder at Roskilde.

After a great day in Copenhagen watching World Cup matches and drinking Danish beer on a boat in a canal,

I had a strange but really nice late night dinner with Matt, Fab, Albert, Catherine, Nikolai & Illy. The place was open till 4am and it was 2:30 when we arrived. At first it was a strange vibe from the people in there. I'm sure they were just adjusting to the large group of loud, strange looking Americans that just crashed their lovely, quiet little Danish restauant. There was even a debate about walking out after the ordering got a little tense with the waiter. In the end we stayed and ended up having some great food and listened to the waiter talk about when he played Roskilde in 1976 and Bob Marley was on the bill. I think he warmed up to us after a bit and then was really cool. We wandered back through little streets lit by a 4am sunrise.

The Roskilde show went smooth enough and there were probably 60,000 people watching the Strokes. We played at 5pm which is early for us. Franz Ferdinand played after us and then it was Roger Waters doing, among other things, Dark Side of the Moon from start to finish. This brings us to the blunder. Based on a series of reasons I don't care to rehash, I chose not to stay and watch. Fab, Nikolai and Illy stayed and had a "transcendental" experience. Nice call. I did manage to wander out to see some Raconteurs with Illy, but after navigating the thousands of drunken Scandinavians and enduring the truly overwhelming stench of urine that seems to be a regular fixture of summer festivals, we couldn't get near the stage. So that was good.
